Beta-alanine is the rate-limiting precursor for carnosine synthesis in skeletal muscle. It is less useful if your training is mostly low-intensity steady state, very heavy singles, or low-volume strength work with full recovery. The supplement works best when acidity and repeated-bout fatigue are part of the problem.
Safety and practical cautions
Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults at standard doses (Saunders et al., 2017). The main issue is tingling, especially with larger single doses. If that bothers you:
