If you’ve ever finished a brutal leg day, pulled on compression tights for the drive home, and wondered whether they actually do anything beyond feeling “supportive,” here’s the short answer: sometimes they help, but mostly through circulation and fluid management, not by speeding muscle repair like a supplement would. In practical terms, the best-case outcome is less limb swelling, less heaviness, and a small but real improvement in how fresh you feel 24 hours later after very hard sessions (Hill et al., 2014; Marqués-Jiménez et al., 2016).
What compression garments actually do Compression garments apply external pressure to the limb, which can help reduce the diameter of superficial veins, improve venous return, and limit fluid accumulation in the exercised muscle compartment.
